Mco orchestra

The MCO appears throughout the year in about 60—70 concerts and performances. It consists of 45 musicians from 20 different nations. Its activities include concerts, opera projects, chamber music as well as CD recordings. Strong artistic links have been established with Daniel Harding principal guest conductor —, music director —, principal conductor — and conductor laureate since and Claudio Abbado. The MCO's repertoire reaches from baroque to contemporary music. The MCO is a free financed orchestra without any state support. Friends and sponsors are needed to maintain the artistic life of the orchestra. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra was founded in on the initiative of Claudio Abbado and a group of musicians from the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra who wished to continue to play together even after reaching the youth orchestra's age limit. The combined principles of artistic curiosity and the broadest possible spectrum of repertoire, both at the highest possible musical level, guided the ambitious ensemble in its founding and continue to shape its work today. In order to maintain these high standards, collaboration with high-profile partners has been of particular importance from the very beginning, in the selection of soloists and conductors as well as concert promoters and venues.

The goal of the Academy is to provide students with valuable practical experience though involving them in the symphonic and chamber music projects of the MCO and thus introduce them to a career as a self-employed orchestra musician. Orchestra projects A central part of the MCO Academy is the annual rehearsal and concert phase with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the direction of renowned conductors. The concert programmes are always developed precisely for the objectives and needs of the MCO Academy. The selected Academy students thus become for a limited time part of a collective of musicians whose understanding of ensemble playing is based on chamber music. The philosophy of the MCO is, however, also to convey music not only through concerts, but also through commitment beyond the stage. For this reason, in addition to the concert and rehearsal phases, the MCO Academy also offers chamber music workshops, tutorials, encounters with internationally renowned soloists and conductors, as well as a mentoring programme, in which the students are supported through discussions, exchanges on professional challenges and individual coaching from the MCO lecturers. The approach of performing music collectively, which particularly characterises the MCO, can be conveyed intensively to the students. Coaching sessions, workshops and networking Additional programs are offered depending on the options and time available and independent of the orchestra project.

We look forward to updating you with whatever inspired selection of music MCO Music Anne Manson curates as an alternative. Status: soloist TBD. But no matter how practicalities unfold, expect a safe season rich with MCO performances. Stay tuned. Audiences benefit from this accident as much as him, and we are lucky to be among that audience when the Boston Symphony Orchestra principal performs and conducts Mozart, among other things, with the MCO. Although featuring the brilliant Aisslinn as the sole soloist is hardly settling. Spellbound MCO audiences also know her as a crack orchestra leader, and at this concert she reprises her role as player-conductor and is joined by the MCO.

What makes the Mahler Chamber Orchestra unique? Watch this short video to find out. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra MCO was founded in based on the shared vision of being a free and international ensemble, dedicated to creating and sharing exceptional experiences in classical music.

With 45 members spanning 20 different countries at its core, the MCO works as a nomadic collective of passionate musicians uniting for specific tours in Europe and across the world. The orchestra is constantly on the move: it has, to date, performed in over 40 countries across five continents.

It is governed collectively by its management team and orchestra board; decisions are made democratically with the participation of all musicians. The orchestra received its most significant artistic impulses from its founding mentor, Claudio Abbado, and from Conductor Laureate Daniel Harding. The MCO works closely with a network of Artistic Partners who inspire and shape the orchestra in long-term collaborations. Concertmaster Matthew Truscott leads and directs the orchestra regularly in chamber orchestra repertoire. MCO musicians all share a strong desire to continually deepen their engagement with audiences.

This has inspired a growing number of offstage musical encounters and projects that bring music, learning and creativity to communities across the globe. Unboxing Mozart creates a convergence of classical music, collaborative performance and urban gaming by inviting audiences to participate in the artistic process through sound boxes.

Since , Feel the Music has opened the world of music to deaf and hard of hearing children through interactive workshops in schools and concert halls. MCO musicians are equally committed to sharing their passion and expertise with the next generation of musicians: since , they have, through the MCO Academy, worked with young musicians to provide them with a high quality orchestral experience and a unique platform for networking and international exchange. Artistic Partners inspire and shape our orchestra during long-term collaborations.

The partnerships are based on artistic dialogue and musical exchange, which we are eager to share with our audiences. Daniele Gatti. Conductor Artistic Advisor. Daniel Harding.
